My New Years Resolutions

My New Years Resolutions

It’s that time of year again, where it is time to look back on the previous years and find things we would like to tweak for the year ahead. I don’t know about you guys, but I find if there is something that needs changing I don’t normally wait until the 1st of January of the new year, I will change it when it needs changing…….. but with that being said, I also do make some resolutions for some goals to end the year ahead with. Things can be anything to big or small, the one that constantly seems to be on my list yea after year is to be fitter …… Do I prefer a cosy night in to an hour or two in the gym. Yes!! 100% yes!! This year however, I now live a 1 minute walk away from a gym and a further 10 minute walk away from the next gym, so unfortunately I can no longer use the excuse of living a 20 minute drive away from the nearest gym. Also this year unlike any other year I also have a wedding and a honeymoon to attend so that is some extra motivation to put ‘get Fit’ on my list for another year. Now I know I am late to the party with this sort of post and I too am getting a little tired of them, but as I would like to look back in a years time to see what from my list I have achieved. Below are some of my New Year Resolutions for 2018.

My New Years Resolutions 2018

  1. Read More

Some of the books on my list to read, mostly Instagram recommendations.

Ok here’s the thing, I love reading. I really really do! But I also love watching a good show or movie. I never read the Harry Potter Books until it got to the second last film and I couldn’t wait a year and a bit to see the last instalment. Same with Twilight, I read the last two books as I had no patience – and yes I am a ‘Twihard’ fan!! …….Anyway verging slightly off topic, I love to read, but I just do not make enough time for it. So for my ‘Read More’ resolution, I have decided, no tv two nights a week and with those two nights I will solely dedicate to reading before bed and a few hours here & there throughout the week. The type of books I love to read are murder/ mystery and biographies of successful female entrepreneurs. My favourite author is Mary Higgins-Clarke. So I intend to buy some more of her books to have ready to read over the next few months.

2. Drink More Water

Lemon Water Benefits

I am the absolute worst when it comes to drinking the right amount of water on a daily basis!! I will easily drink have a cup of water for the whole day and not be thirsty and while that is all well and good to read and write, I have noticed more and more that I am starting to get headaches throughout the day, my skin is super dehydrating and I have been told for years now during facials that my skin soaks up the lotions and potions straight away due to being super dehydrated. I have tried various methods to drink more water, like a glass every hour and a half, getting a bottle and with marker labelling different times through out the day that X amount of water must be drank by or drinking a glass with every single meal. None of these seemed to consistently work for me, I have had a bit of success with some small changes but not near enough. So I have downloaded an app to remind me to drink water every few hours and also measures how much water I drink during the day and whether I am drinking enough – If you would like to know more on this app, please let me know 🙂

3. Get Fitter and Toned

Ok, yes, yes! I know you read above that SURPRISE I have an impending wedding approaching, just under 6 months away to be honest and I have a honeymoon for which I want to be looking like one slick Rick, or Vick, yes one sleek Vick. Now I know I am very fortunate with my body as I have curves where I want them, but I would like to be more toned, especially around my tummy area. This time I am more determined. I have a lot less excuses and I intend to do the following

  • Join a yoga class to attend 1-2 times a week.
  • Start running with Oisín (Couch to 5km)
  • I joined an at home work out program, which I was doing well with until about a month and a half ago, so I would like to get back on track with that and if I keep it up then join a gym.

Some people find buying new work out clothes, new runners or some equipment helps to motivate them and while I whole heartedly agree with this statement I can’t join in as I already have lot’s of clothes and all the equipment needed… literally EVERYTHING!!! But just an FIY if fitness is down for you as a goal or resolution to help keep you on track.

4. Travel More

Some of my travels in 2017

Who doesn’t love to get out and to travel, I know I certainly do. But as a young mother going on 6 month trips around the world has never been an option, but over the last two years I have traveled more and more and I have thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it!! 2018 holds a lot more travel. I already have a mini trip to Italy and hopefully a day or two in Switzerland in mind for February, which I cannot wait for and then a honeymoon in June (bring that on please) and hopefully (hopefully) as I have said it to myself for three freakin years now, but I would love to visit Scotland in Autumn, I literally have an itinerary saved on my computer for two’s’ years now so that would be a dream come true. Traveling more also includes exploring Ireland more regularly too. There is so much to see and do on our little green isle and a weekend away in one county can really open your eyes to how much rich history and beauty Ireland has to offer.

To travel more, I just need to be more organised with my time and more sensible with how I save money (which is something I also need to work on this year).

5. XXXXXXX

Number 5 is a much more personal resolution and goal, that I am going to keep to myself that I need to work on for 2018, it involves being a lot more determined and disciplined than I have been the last few years, so if at the end of 2018 I reach it ….. which hopefully I will a lot sooner than that, I will write it down here and let you all know what it is and how I achieved it.

So there you have it guys, these are my resolutions for the year ahead and some of my ways in which I hope to go about keeping them. I always find writing them down and looking at them throughout the year help me to keep focused towards what I want.

Do you have any resolutions for the year ahead? I would be very interested in hearing other peoples resolutions and goals for 2018 and how you intend to reach them.
