When visiting Rome, the best bit of advise I can give is to pack very, very comfortable shoes. That is beyond important when walking around to go sight seeing. Those beautiful cobblestone streets are not going to feel so beautiful if you are walking them in stilettos. I would advise getting a very cosy and very supportive pair of shoes. If you want to add a bit of style into it, there is no harm in that either.
Apart from that, my next bit of advice would be to pack according to the weather and season. If packing for summer in Rome, you will need nothing more than light and airy dresses, tops and skirts or trousers (or shorts, playsuits, jumpsuit etc etc). If packing for Autumn/ Spring, pack a pair of jeans, loose tops, closed comfortable boots and a nice cardigan for the evenings…..and maybe even a jacket. In spring the weather can be quite unpredictable and it is known to rain, so it is advisable to pack a light rain coat or umbrella. In winter be wise, pack trousers and jumpers and one nice coat.
Here is a rough checklist of what to pack for a short trip to Rome in Spring/ Summer
- Jeans
- Loose Shirt
- 2 -3 T-shirts
- Skirt and or shorts
- Playsuit
- Day dress
- Fancy dress (for night time)
- Warm cardigan
- Shoes – runners & sandals or runners & boots (depending on the season)
